On Starting Sustainable Zero Waste and Minimalist lifestyles
It's been an interesting two weeks (a few medical scares included!) as I decide to embark on a few challenges that will eventually become habits. Habits that will become more sustainable in the near future. There are so many ways to make the changes, and many more people much more capable than I have written at length. I'll link the references in a proper guide post soon enough!
Zero Waste Changes since Last Week:
1. I've switched to reusable bags, utensils and plates to reduce my daily waste production. I've discovered that asking my workplace cafeteria about using these reusables is completely allowed. I do try to either go before or after the rush so my requests aren't too cumbersome on the queue.
2. I've done the research to try and start a small garden of herbs and leafy vegetables if possible given the varying temperatures in Puerto Rico. I have a few selections to try and get fresh ingredients and a way of stress relief/morning routine.
3. Grandma and I have started a compost to not just reduce the compostable waste but also to help with the problem with pests. We now freeze our non-compostable waste
4. Reduced my print-outs at work and in my law studies. Nothing too drastic as I rely on making my case briefs on note paper (at least for the time being!)
As for heading down to a Minimalist Approach:
1. I took a long look at my closet and started making a regular check of what I really wear and avoid repeating colors.
2. Adopted a sort of Capsule Wardrobe for Spring and Summer while putting away all the heavier clothes for winter.
3. Tied with a more budgeting project, I've limited my budget down to $50 a week (save for 2 particular purchases). Turns out, paying attention to how money flows in and out
More details as I cross the two-week mark!
